With so many of Monster Jam’s biggest events contested in the first three months of the year, culminating with the Monster Jam NGK Spark Plugs World Finals in Las Vegas, it’s easy to see today’s Monster Jam as more of a winter sport, but a quick look at the upcoming events section here at Monster Jam Online will show you that’s not totally the case. In fact there are several great events still to come in 2008 all over the globe.
As an example, the first weekend of September will see Monster Jam thrills returning to the Lone Star State with action headed for Corpus Christi, TX. Thanks to the tradition rich events that have excited Texas fans for decades in Houston, complemented by the televised events in San Antonio and El Paso, Texas has always had a high Monster Jam profile. Along with the Reliant Stadium, Alamodome, and Sun Bowl battles the huge state has been fertile ground for the sport’s development in cities all across the state on an annual basis, including last month’s incredible Monsters on Main Street event, presented by Ford and Monster Jam to the fans in the League City, TX, area. Now here comes another opportunity for the huge base of fans in Texas to see their heroes in action up close in Corpus Christi.
There are several other cities in North America where Monster Jam is headed before the year is out, including one that really excites me, close to my home, when Monster Jam is back at Freedom Hall in Louisville, KY. Louisville has been the site of many awesome events over the years, including many made famous on the early television broadcasts from Louisville Speedway, where the monsters raced on that speedway’s unique figure-8 course. Louisville is a big motorsports area and Monster Jam has always been popular there, both at the speedway, which unfortunately is no longer there, as well as inside at the home of the vaunted University of Louisville Cardinal basketball team.
Monster Jam’s World Tour also resumes next month with some of the most popular stops in Europe still on the schedule and a new venue that everyone’s excited about in Barcelona coming in October. First, though, it’s another great weekend coming up at the first dome that was ever included on the European schedule, the Gelredome in Arnhem, Holland. The Dutch fans have supported Monster Jam so strong over these past three years that the Gelredome is one of the only domes anywhere in the world hosting multiple events on the same weekend, and the fans packed in for all three events last year, and they’ll surely be back in even larger numbers at the end of next month. Monster Jam’s expansion of the World Tour then continues in last October with the sport’s Spanish debut in Barcelona.
Wrapping up the European schedule for 2008 will be a pair of the most popular and longest running cities on the Monster Jam World Tour, Helsinki, Finland, and Stockholm, Sweden.
After all of the great fall events Monster Jam’s recent tradition of actually starting the new year in December is set to continue with the pre-Christmas return to the spacious Minneapolis Metrodome. So make no mistake about it. Monster Jam continues to set records and thrill millions of fans live in the first quarter of every year, but that by no means makes this a winter-only sport. As fans in places like Corpus Christi, Louisville, and in cities across Europe will be able to attest to, the phenomenon of Monster Jam is meant to be enjoyed year round, whether you’re living it live, enjoying the Speed TV broadcasts, watching the great action on DVD (the new World Finals 9 DVD has just been released and is a must have for all Monster Jam fans), and of course now even driving the trucks yourself in Monster Jam: The Video Game from Activision. This fall there’s also a brand new Activision game coming out, Monster Jam Urban Assault, with even more awesome ways to pilot your own Monster Jam machine in the video world. All the details on the new game will be available here over the next couple of months on the main page of Monster Jam Online. So Monster Jam fans, enjoy the fall with all of the exciting action still coming in 2008.
