FINAL STOP OF '08 WORLD TOUR
By Scott Douglass

Another successful Monster Jam World Tour draws to a close this weekend with four events in one of the sport’s original European homes, the Globe in Stockholm, Sweden, and one thing is certain: the house will be rockin’!

Once again thousands of the most loyal Monster Jam fans on the European continent will pack into the Globe to cheer another all-star line-up on hand looking to wrap up this year’s World Tour in the win column. The racing portion of each event will bare close watching to see if emerging star Frank Krmel can continue the race dominance he showed last weekend when he drove Donkey Kong to three consecutive Helsinki event victories, finishing the weekend in Finland undefeated on the race track.

Krmel may have surprised everyone by winning both Championship Races on Saturday, but he was even more impressive in the weekend finale Sunday afternoon. After being victim to Donkey Kong’s dominating Saturday performances every driver in the field arrived Sunday planning to knock Krmel back down a notch, but he was up to the challenge and handled the pressure of racing with a target on his back brilliantly, again winning every race Donkey Kong was in on Sunday. Krmel gave big props to his European Crew Chief, Dennis “Bucky” Foltz, who he said had Donkey Kong set up perfectly for the Finnish dirt. You would expect that the track conditions this weekend in Stockholm will be similar, so Krmel heads into the Globe as the racing favorite.

The entire crew, all of the drivers, mechanics, and behind the scenes personnel arrived in the Swedish city Tuesday morning after an overnight cruise from Helsinki, and everyone is ready to get down to business in a beautiful facility and in a city where Monster Jam is already wildly popular. Many Swedes already journeyed to the other coast of this scenic land in June to watch the stadium action in Gothenburg, but this intimate setting in Stockholm remains more popular than ever with the locals.

So many of our American events are in cities steeped in long, deep Monster Jam tradition. On the Monster Jam World Tour, no city can boast more of a Monster Jam tradition than Stockholm. Again this year as it has been in each previous year of European action the Globe will be packed full with some of the loudest and most enthusiastic fans that we see across the Atlantic Ocean, and again, with a line-up full of World Finals veterans those fans are sure to be rewarded with amazing performances.

In the pits the main body work being done this week is on the Jetix truck, which Dan Evans flipped in an outstanding freestyle in Helsinki Sunday afternoon. The crew, led by Dan’s wife and Crew Chief Lorrie, is confident that their truck, sponsored by the popular kids TV network Jetix, will be back to 100% for Friday night’s opener of the weekend in Stockholm. Most of the other crews plan lots of fine tuning, looking to find that little extra to finally stop Donkey Kong’s Scandinavian winning streak.

Freestyle wise every truck and driver brought their “A” game to Finland and fans can expect the same this weekend. It was no big surprise that Grave Digger veteran Charlie Pauken and reigning World Freestyle Champion Adam Anderson in Taz divided up the freestyle wins in Helsinki, but the other stars in the field made it tough on that heralded pair with superb runs from the first competitor to the last run of each show. Everyone expects no less in terms of spectacular freestyle action this weekend in the Globe.

So for the stars of Monster Jam there will be just a little time for some sight seeing and to enjoy Stockholm, but then it is quickly back to business, getting everything ready for the monsters to go big and thrill huge crowds of fervent Swedish fans throughout the upcoming weekend.
