DRIVER HISTORY
|

At the age of 16 he raced motocross then moved onto dirt track cars next it was superbikes then drag and mud racing and lastly it became monster trucks. Started at 38 years of age in the monster truck industry. Him and his girlfriends (now his wife’s) first date was to a monster truck show. They decided that that’s what they wanted to do. So they followed the trucks around for a while and then they decided to buy one…they bought excalibur. He was working as a technician at a Ford dealership part-time on weekends initially but quit to drive monster trucks full time because it had taken up so much of his time. He continued to work full time as a monster truck driver and to this day still does. His goal for this year is to be the Thunder National Champion. Its been him and his wife running the business since 1977. His favorite racing competitor is Dennis Anderson, Tom Mintz, Gary Porter and Jimmy Creten because they give 110% of what they’ve got every time. His favorite freestyle guy is Charlie Paulken (gravedigger) because he is the best freestyler in the business and he seems to have the ability to push the truck over the envelope onto its wheels no matter what truck he uses, he will do it. His career highlight was his 2004 Semi-Final finish at Indianapolis and St Louis. He has no favorite stop, he says he is well received everywhere they go. He differs from other truck drivers in that because he is a small independent driver he has to pick and choose his battles because of budget. This changes the attitude of the driver when they are in this situation and it changes the way they drive. (Must be somewhat more conservative). The advice he would give to those looking to get into monster truck racing would be to continue your education b/c the direction this industry is headed you have to have a background in marketing and business management because otherwise the team wont do as well. His wife does most of the business aspect of it but he says they lack in marketing skills. The number one thing for this team is because of the fans that come to the shows. Always maintain availability to the fans of this sport. The day that it is no longer available is the day that he walks away from the sport.
By far the most special moment in Bruce's career was when he was given the opportunity to meet a kid that was blind and show him the truck. Bruce went over every aspect of the truck, and got the kid to use his hands to feel everything in the driver's compartment so that the kid could absorb the look and feel of the truck through his other senses. That moment escalated Bruce's ability to affect other people's lives in special way.
