DRIVER HISTORY
|
|
One of a handful of Canadian drivers, Linsey Weenk from Devil's Coulee, Alberta now pilots the Built Ford Tough Blue Thunder. But the one time Junior League Hockey star started out his career behind the wheel of Jurassic Attack. The 12 foot tall dinosaur was always a hit with the kids at the Built Ford Tough Party in the Pits, but Linsey made sure to put the truck through it's paces on the track also. In addition to regular Monster Jam wins and major motion picture appearances, Linsey set a monster truck wheelie record in 2004. His trademark throttle control had the front wheels off the ground for 592', an accomplishment that still stands today. In the summer of 2004 he caught the attention of 2xtreme Racing owner, Jimmy Creten. With the 2xtreme team wanting to expand and Dawn taking time out of the seat, Linsey took the position as driver of the new Iron Outlaw Ford. The 2006 Monster Jam season introduced Iron Outlaw to the national audience. Linsey started winning in Montreal and didn't stop for 4 months. By the time he had his first loss, which occurred at Chase Field in Phoenix, it was February. The Iron Outlaw was victorious in 20 straight round appearances and clinched event titles in Montreal, Minneapolis, San Diego, Anaheim, and the final event at the Pontiac Silverdome, The SPEED channel camera's captured the unprecedented winning streak making Linsey Weenk a household name to all Monster Jam fans. Linsey was also the first racing winner crowned at the brand new Ford Field in Detroit. The Motor City is rich with monster truck history and in 2006 Linsey won the final event at the Silverdome and the very first event in Ford Field. As his first World Finals appearance grew closer, Linsey carried that momentum into Sam Boyd Stadium. Unfortunately that windy night in Las Vegas a broken right front wheel left his chances for a World Title unfulfilled. In the summer of 2006 fans of the show 'Scrubs' even caught a glimpse of Iron Outlaw on NBC. Linsey was nominated for a Speed Channel Performance Award in 2007 because of his intense rivalry with Grave Digger's Dennis Anderson. Linsey & Dennis were the only monster truck drivers honored with a nomination. The Speed Channel Performance Awards highlight the best in all of Speeds programming, ranging from NASCAR to Drag Racing - Formula 1 to Supercross. In 2007 Linsey joined the Built Ford Tough Blue Thunder team accompanying Tony Farrell on the two truck team. His first appearance came in front of the Monsters on Mainstreet winners in Crete, IL driving away with a racing win. 2008 has started off strong with Linsey continuing to take wins in multiple SPEED taped shows. Despite all his success Linsey remains humble, acknowledging the people that helped him into the sport and respecting the legends that have come before him.
