DRIVER HISTORY
Clydesdale Headshot
Greg Adams is a fabricator, custom motor home builder, custom car and truck painter and also owns and drivers the Annihilator monster truck. This marks his sixteenth year as a professional monster truck driver and his 22nd year as a custom car and truck painter and fabricator.

Greg formerly drove the Summit Racing truck but got his start exhibiting show trucks. "The last monster truck that I painted was USA-1," he said. "I started to see that there might be some money in owning the trucks rather than just painting them - custom painting takes a long time."

Adams bought a truck, did the fabrication and painting on the body and began exhibiting the monster.

Adams spent about seven years doing show exhibitions. However, the industry changed and Adams got a sponsor, Summit Racing. His career as a monster truck driver soared. Until last year his truck was the monster truck for Summit Racing, the Crimson Crusher and since last year, Annihilator.

Comments Adams, "I went to my first show and I had never driven over cars." Adams looks at Annihilator and monster truck racing as more of a hobby than a business. "My son, Zack, he lives with me now and he helps me in the shop. He picks up on things really fast." A fan of American Chopper, Greg tries to be like Pauly, Sr. with his son, but doesn't quite have the mustache to make an impression. "I like things clean and organized in the shop."

Adams daughter, Brittney, was recently married to a U.S. Marine stationed in South Carolina. "The wedding was a little rushed because we thought that her now husband was going to get sent to Iraq. But his orders were changed, so he's here now but will be going to Iraq this winter."

Greg feels that as a driver he can set a high standard for others. "I run a clean truck, and I've been around for awhile. I can go to a show and have more years in the business than all the other drivers put together. In freestyle, I can go out first and score a 24 or 25 right off the bat, and I think that makes everyone else raise the bar." According to Adams it takes a little finesse to be the first driver to hit the obstacles on the freestyle track because the car stacks and buses will give.

I do this because I like it. When you tear up your trucks and you want them to be perfect, like me, you get irritated, because you want them to be perfect. But I like being a monster truck driver.
