AURORA, Ill. – (April 30, 2008) Monster Jam®, Universal Technical Institute (UTI), a nationwide provider of technical education training, and three time Monster Jam World Champion Dennis Anderson announced that Tanner Swinhart, of McCleary, Wash., won the 2008 UTI Grave Digger® Scholarship in front of the sold out Monster Jam World Finals crowd of 36,954 at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium.

“Tanner put together an awesome DVD.  Everyone who applied for the scholarship put a lot of effort into their video, but Tanner’s really stuck out,” said Anderson.  “I was blown away with how down to earth and sincere he was.  It was great to hear him talk about how he and his grandpa have worked on cars together since he was 13 years old.  I know this scholarship will really benefit him and he’ll be able to make it work at UTI.  The Grave Digger team and I want to thank Tanner and we wish him the best.”

Swinhart completed the scholarship entry form on www.uti.edu and sent in a two minute video explaining why Anderson should choose him for the UTI Grave Digger Scholarship. Swinhart presented his passion for becoming a top mechanic while including testimonials from his mentors and peers.

Anderson could easily relate to his work ethic. After reviewing the tape, Swinhart received a phone call from Anderson and found out that the driver and creator of the popular Grave Digger monster truck personally selected him as the winner of the $20,000 scholarship for training at the UTI campus of his choice.

“Tanner’s passion and determination clearly illustrated that he is the deserving recipient of this year’s scholarship. We would like to congratulate him and his family for this life-changing award,” said Terry Emig, director of motorsports and event marketing at Universal Technical Institute. “UTI is grateful to Monster Jam and Dennis Anderson for supporting this scholarship effort for the past three years. It takes technician awareness to a whole new level and gives us at UTI another opportunity to accomplish our goal of changing the world one life at a time.”
