MONSTER JAM RETURNS TO SALINAS, CA

Live Nation-Motor Sports is pleased to announce that the famed Salinas Monster Jam brought to you by Advance Auto Parts and Ford Trucks will return to Salinas for one huge show Sunday, May 18, 2008.

The legendary Grave Digger is scheduled to appear along with the fiercest line-up of U.S. Hot Rod Monster Trucks Salinas has ever seen.   A cast of 10 monster trucks will grace the Salinas Sports Complex, Sunday, May 18th, including several World Champions.  Tom Meents, 2006 Freestyle World Champion, will be behind the wheel of Maximum Destruction, 2006 World Racing Champion Grave Digger will got to battle against a full field of world renowned monster trucks.  A total of 10 monster trucks will compete in Salinas.  Competing trucks include Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, Bulldozer, Maximum Destruction, Grave Digger, The Patriot, Tropical Thunder, Obsession Natural High and more.        
“We are thrilled to return to Salinas, Calif.  Salinas and the surrounding communities deserve to see quality, entertaining monster truck racing at an affordable price such as the U.S. Hot Rod Monster Jam will bring to the Salinas Sports Complex,” said Mike Ferrazza, Senior Director of Marketing for Live Nation - Motor Sports.  Tickets for the Monster Jam will go on sale March 31, 2008 and seats for adults start at $18 and only $9 for kids ages 2-12.

Sunday, May 18, 2008 @ 2:00 PM – Doors open at 12:00 PM

There is one day of competition, Sunday, May 18.  The Monster Jam starts at 2:00pm on Sunday, doors open two hours prior to event time.  A pit party will take place on Saturday in front of the Salinas Sports Complex Box Office where fans will be able to meet the competitors, get photos with the monster trucks and have a chance to win merchandise.  No pit pass or ticket is necessary for the pit party.  Kids seats start at only $9 and adults can see all the action starting at only $18.  All tickets are subject to convenience and handling charges.  All seats increase $2 on the day of the show.

Monster Trucks Facts -
Trucks: Usually 11 feet tall and about 12 feet wide, a monster truck must weigh a minimum of 9,000 pounds, with some monster trucks weighing as much as 12,000 pounds. The less the body weighs, the more strength and weight can be put into the frame and engine without sacrificing speed and maneuverability. Average cost: $150,000.

Engines: Custom-built, supercharged and methanol-injected, a monster truck engine burns up to 2.5 gallons of methanol per run (approximately 250 feet). The size of the motor is limited to 575 cubic feet, according to U.S.H.R.A regulations. The average monster truck team will go through five engines in one year. Average cost per engine: $35,000.

Tires: Manufactured by Goodyear and Firestone, monster truck tires must be 66 inches high and 43 inches wide. The average monster truck team will go through eight tires in one year. Tires are customized and hand cut to accommodate track conditions. Cutting one tire takes approximately 50 hours. Average cost: $2,600 each.
