Weekend Race Recap
Friday 7:30
Monster Jam summer heat was back in the great state of Texas in the beautiful town of Corpus Christi. The temperature was 97 outside but it was getting hotter inside with six of the best Monster Trucks ready to battle it out in four Monster Jam events.
The first competition of the night was the Advance Auto Parts wheelie contest. El Toro Loco took the win for his home town crowd with a perfect wheelie and a perfect score of 30. Grave Digger was second with a score of 24 followed by Turtle with a 19, Taz with an 18 and Equalizer with a score of 17. Instigator rounded out the field with a 9 only because he was the first to go and the concrete floor was very slippery do to the humidity.
Racing was next on the agenda and both Digger and Turtle was the fastest of the night. The two would meet in the finals and the Black and Green Wrecking Machine would take the win by only inches over Turtle. Digger made it to the finals by defeating Taz in round one and Equalizer in the semi finals. Turtle made his way to the finals by taking out El Toro loco in round one (broke), and fast looser Taz in the semi finals. In other action Equalizer defeated Instigator in his first battle.
The Cricket Wireless doughnut contest was awesome and the scores were close. Taz came out on top with an amazing cyclone that gave him the win with a score of 28 only one point higher than Equalizer and Grave Digger who both scored 27's. Turtle was next with a 24 followed by Instigator with a 22 and El toro with a 16.
Freestyle was also close as the tie breaker judge was called to break the tie between Taz and El Toro. They both scored a 25 for the win but the final point was awarded to El Toro loco and the crowd went wild for their home town driver. Taz finished second with a great freestyle and save that also had the crowd on their feet for more. Grave Digger fell short with a score of 23 followed by Equalizer with a 20 and rounding out the competition was Instigator and Turtle with scores of 14.
I can tell already for tomorrow nights competition that each Monster Jam driver will let it all hang out to try and take a win for the great fans of Corpus Christie. See you tomorrow.
Saturday 7:30
A near sell out crowd was on hand to watch the legendary Grave Digger and exspecialy there home towm Monster Jam super star Lupe Soza driver of El Toro Loco! All night long the competition was fierce and close to call in every event.
Teenage mutant ninja turtle started the night off with a backwards roll over in the wheelie contest that had the crowd on there feet the rest of the night. It would seem that he would be the clear winner but Taz out scored him by one point and the victory with a score of 28. El Toro was third with a 26 followed by Equalizer with a 23, Grave Digger with a 21 and Instigator with a 12.
Racing was next and and Grave Digger was fast all night. The Finals came down to Grave Digger versus Taz and at the finish line Digger won the race by inches giving him the sweep in racing for the weekend. Taz made his way to the finals with wins over Turtle in round one and Equalizer in the semi finals who came back as fast looser. El toro Loco one his first round battle against Equalizer only to get beat by Digger in the semi finals that ended with El Toro on two wheels braking another rim forcing him out of the doughnut contest. Grave Digger also defeated his round one opponent which was Instigator.
Taz again took the doughnut competition which is a surprise from most because he's not known for doing great doughnuts. The key to his succes this weekend is that he put a locker in the front end of his axle allowing for all four tires to spin. WOW! Equalizer was equally impressive as he took second again with a score of 26 one point less than Taz. Grave Digger was next with a 23 followed by Turtle and Instigator who tied with a score of 22.
The UTI FREESTYLE was awesome and Turtle started us off with some sick air and great cuyclones for a score of 19. Instigator scored a 14 on his run leaving alot of room for the next four trucks. Equalizer again was impressive as he scored a 23 for the lead that would only be tied by the next two trucks. Taz and El Toro both had solid runs that equaled the same score for a three way tie. This left one truck to go Grave Digger! The black and green wrecking machine was all over the arena floor tearing it up and getting the fans on there feet for more. Digger took the win with a score of 25 for the second win of the night.
