Weekend Race Recap
Beaumont, TX (March 7-9, 2003)
FridayThe big dogs came out to eat in the Fair Park Coliseum. Big Dawg and Doug Noelke advanced his way to the final by out powering the competition in the elimination rounds. King Krunch also dominated his side of the bracket and advanced to the final. The start of Monster Jam was a thriller. In the picture perfect moment, Wild Hare stood his truck straight up on the tailgate crushing the right side of the bed on impact. In the final, it was the Texas truck King Krunch in victory lane. In Pro Trucks, Thomas Ray White limped his way to the main vs. Gator Simms. Simms made more mistakes and cost himself the win. Thomas Ray deserved the win, but these two expect more from themselves than came out of Friday nite. Team Texas embarrased Team Oklahoma all nite long in Quad Wars. They won the main, and the captains challenge. Finally, Monster truck Freestyle saw some wild action. The 3rd truck out, Wild Hare set the bar with a perfect 30. Showing that the skywheelie was no fluke in at the start of the show Jason Witte proved that he is a driver and truck to watch for. Wolverine and King Krunch tried to top the score but came up 2 and 1 points short respectively.
It was time for the competitors to face off in Beaumont. Little Tiger gnawed his way through his side of the bracket as did the Big Dawg. Little Tiger chewed up Wolverine and then set his sights on the Dawg. Casey Christensen, the pilot of the Tiger Truck was dialed in and was not going to settle for anything less than a super-sized meal of the competition.
Little Tiger won the final hands down as he rocketed off the line and shot to the finish line. Tiger wasn't done yet. He came out early in Freestyle and posted a score of 28. Using the entire Hot Rod Raceway, Little Tiger smashed and bashed his way over, through and across the obstacles with wild abandon. Sliding to a stop and popping out the window you knew the kid a put together a great run. Big Dawg and Wolverine worked the van stack and the doughnut alley like mad men only to post 26, and 27 point scores respectively.
John Jungeblut and the Wild Thing ran out the fastest time in the Pro Arena Truck Racing for his first victory of the weekend.
Team Texas embarrassed the team from Oklahoma all night. Both heats, the main, and even a captains challenge.
Saturday 8pm
The yellow concept truck piloted by Brian Barthell was up to the task of dominating the points night in Beaumont. One of the drivers I pick to be in the finals of racing in Vegas, came out on the night with the goal of victory lane and there was nothing any of the competition could do about it. Wolverine decimated the field, taking the main event win. Wolverine came out with the same mind set in freestyle and topped all scores with a 29.
Little Tiger provided the thrill of the night as Casey Christensen saved a rollover by throttling out of a hard it that sent the truck over on the drivers side door. Christensen stayed with it, as the truck came back over onto the passenger side door, then back again to the other side. Walking nearly the length of the floor, never with more than 2 wheels on the ground, Casey showed that he is a seasoned monster truck pilot already even though he is only 21.
John Jungeblut put together his second win of the weekend, putting the boots to the rest of the field. Team Texas swept the night in Quad Wars.
Sunday
Brian Barthell showed once again that he is one of the best in the world at driving a monster truck. He decimated a stout field of competitors once again in Beaumont TX. Cruising his way to the final he met Little Tiger in the main. Tiger red lighted in his desire to beat his rival and boss. Casey Christensen came up short on his goal, but his boss and competitor praised him heavily during his interview after Wolverine and Brian won Freestyle.
Wolverine posted the only perfect 30 of the weekend, going crazy around the Hot Rod Raceway. King Krunch and David Smith also put on a killer show but could only rate a 29 from the worthy judges here in Beaumont.
Gator Simms won the mistake laden main in the P.A.T. racing. He ended up making less mistakes than the runner up for his first and only win on the season.
Team Oklahoma just couldn't keep pace with Texas at all this weekend. Once again it was Team Texas in the Built Ford Tough Victory Lane. |
