Weekend Race Recap

Report from Larry Naston / USHRA Announcer
Tonight's Thunder National was a rip-roaring affair in the UTC McKenzie Arena. It all started with the Monster truck Donut contest. The competitors were fierce. With 5 great trucks. Prowler (Dale Mitchell), Rambo (Mike Nitzke), Godzilla (Steve Hearly), Predator (Allen Pezo) and Reptoid (Jim Jack). The winner was Rambo, he scored a perfect 30 and in fact took off his steering wheel in the process and showed it to the crowd. Whenthey saw the wheel, they stood up and started to scream. It was cool!!!
Tonight's wheelie contest was won by Prowler. He dug it and got the truck pointed straight up and cleared all of the cars. No one else came close to his run.
Freestyle was one of tonight's highlights. Rambo started things off with a run he'd rather forget. He scored a 13. Godzilla was next and had a great run and scored and scored a 25. It was a run the featured BIG AIR, WHEELIES and a DONUT to finish it off. Prowler scored a 22 and was followed by Predator who scored a 24. It looked like Godzilla was going to win with his 25...and then came Reptoid. Jim Jack (Reptoid driver) got on the gas and flat destroyed everything in his path. he never got out of the gas. The crowd started t really get excited and Jim kept on hammering. He scored a 26 to take the win, and keep his streak alive.
In Monster Truck racing, Allen Pezo's could not loose. Both trucks that were in the final are owned by Allen. Predator and Prowler and Prowler took the win with Dale Mitchell doing the driving.
In freestyle motocross, the riders were a ok! Tyler Kyle along with Kyle Lovelace and Cody Elkins put on a great show. The show also featured Aaron Smith who rides a mini-cycle and does back-flips. The entire freestyle was great, the fans were on their feet screaming for more. Aaron gave them what they wanted...he did another back flip and landed it perfectly. It was a great night and we have one more show to go!!!

Tonight’s show was exactly what we expected it to be…a complete blow-out. From Monsters to Quads to Freestyle each class was exactly that…”Class”
The night started off with a Monster truck Wheelie contest and Reptoid and Predetor both scored a perfect 30. Prowler and Rambo scored a 24 and Godzilla scored a 26. Tonight the Wheelies were better than Friday night by far. The crowd was really into it and voted Predetor the winner due to the tie.
Next up was the Doughnut contest, and it was rockin’…again we had a tie. Prowler and Predator tied with a 29, Rambo scored a 28, Godzilla had a 27 and Reptoid scored a 15. Reptoid broke a rear steering part, that would end up hurting him for the rest of the night. The crowd voted Predator the winner.
Next came Freestyle… We were down to 3 trucks. Prowler, Predator and Reptoid. With a near capacity crowd going completely insane we started to fire Prowler. Dale Mitchell took Prowler for a ride. He hit everything in sight. He scored a 24. Next was Reptoid who was running with a broken rear-steer. He did the best he could and scored a 23. Then came Predator, Allen Pezo just blasted around the arena and spent more time in the air than he did on the ground. It was a great run. He ended it with a killer doughnut. He scored a perfect 30. He won freestyle hands down.
In Monster Truck racing, it was all Predator. He ran Godzilla and Reptoid and Prowler. He beat them all, and hands down won racing. It was a great night for the Monsters.
In Quad Wars Team North Carolina and Team Tennessee both won heat races and had what they thought were good game plans for the “Auzzie Rules” main. As the main lined up, it was clear that Team Tennessee was on a mission to win. And then the main started, Team North Carolina won, but rode with some questionable style and a Captains challenge was ordered. The Team Captains from both teams lined up for a three lap winner take all race. Team Tennessee won with a great ride from Captain Chris Harper.
In FMX, the riders we had were led by Tyler Kyle. He had Kyle Lovelace and Cody Elkins in tow. And we had a special attraction, Aaron Smith was here on his “Super-Mini” and he flat spun the crowd out. His back flips were incredible and the fans loved his personality. And overall, the fans loved the entire show.
This was my first Thunder Nationals as an announcer. I had a blast. Thank you to all the fans for making it a great time. And a big thank you to Subway and 1 800 Safe-Auto and Series sponsor Advance Auto Parts for making this event a huge success.
