Weekend Race Recap Friday
Friday morning started out with snow, terrible roads, and multiple school closings, but by the end of the night the action inside the Thompson Boiling Arena would have melted the snow for miles. Perfect scores of 30 in all the elements, (wheelie, doughnut, and freestyle contest) ending up taking the wins. In fact, in the doughnut contest it was a 3 way tie between Virginia Giant & Diehl Wilson, Prowler & Dale Mitchell, and Predator with Allen Pezo behind the wheel. The fans went absolutely bonkers when it was their applause that made the Virginia Giant the popular choice. The action only became wilder when Aaron "flip" Smith (fresh off a trip to Switzerland) kicked off two unbelievable BACKFLIPS on a 90cc yamaha. Thats right, a mini moto-cross bike!!! It was during the post-show salute to the crowd that it was obvious to the racers and USHRA officials that there was going to be a LOT of fans coming back for the pit party and race on saturday night. After friday night's action, it should be very interesting to see HOW or IF it can be topped on saturday. Check back tomorrow night.
Saturday
It can only be described with 3 simple letters, W O W!!!! For the Knoxville fans that came back for saturday's action went away at the end of the night extremely pleased that they did so. Chris Roy and High Anxiety made it a clean sweep of the weekend in the wheelie contest. Allan Peezo and Predator also did the same in the freestyle competition. Early in the show, the crowd was warned to not miss coming back to their seats too late after intermission, because again tonight, Aaron "flip" Smith literally had the fans screaming. Once again, the "mini-moto free-styler" had the entire crowd at the Thompson Boling Arena on their feet chanting for more! A heel clicker, knack-knack, and then the unbelievable backflip. TWICE! All done on a 90cc yamaha. Overheard in the autograph line after the show, a few fans were deciding on making the drive to Chatanooga in 4 weeks for the event there. Now thats a monster truck fanatic!!!! |
