Weekend Race Recap Friday
The night started with a lot of excitement at the Kansas Coliseum just outside of Wichita. Five monster trucks, including Cyclops, Thunderstruck, Bad News, Rambo and Bulldozer had gathered to do battle and battle they did. In the wheelie competition several competitors made great passes, but Guy Wood stood his truck, Bulldozer, on its tail and he set the crowd and the judges on fire to take the win. In the donut competition Thunderstruck had the number one starting position, and started things off by going almost immediately on his head. The crowd and the judges loved it. The judges awarded him twenty-eight points, which started a chain of twenty-eight point scores. Cyclpos got 28, as did Bad News and Bulldozer. Finally Rambo nailed an amazing and incredibly long spin that had to make him dizzy, and the judges rewarded him with a perfect 30 to save us from a five way tie. Freestyle was just as close as the wheelie and donut contests with Guy Woods and Bulldozer once again taking the win. Racing had the same outcome with Guy Woods and Bulldozer filling the spot of top dog! We also had a great FMX show plus Diamond Dan Carter totally wowed the crowd with his unbelieveable jet quad, Psycho.
Tune in tomorrow for more great racing from Wichita!

Saturday
I'm going to use a highly technical term to start off my discription of tonights action. WOW! That's the only thing I can think to say! We had two way ties, three way ties and much more. The wheelie contest was one great run after another, until Guy Wood and Bulldozer literally flew around the Kansas Coliseum floor, lined up on the fly and nailed the crush cars, with-out slowing down one lick. His wheelie was just as spectacular as his approach, and he was declared the overwhelming winner.
The donut competition was equally exciting with Bulldozer laying down enough rubber that I believe other monster truck drivers could hire him to shave their tires. It was spectacular, and the judges gave him a perfect 30, even though I had warned the judges to save some room for the last competitor. It turns out the judges should have heeded my warning, because Mike Nitzke and Rambo turned in the most, the greatest, the raddest donut I've ever seen, and yes, you guessed it, he also got a perfect 30. the fans made the final determination and rambo was crowned Champion.
Freestyle brought a similar result with a three way tie for first, until Guy Wood and Bulldozer once again did a speed run that won the judges heart and the perfect 30 score.
In the only non-subjectively scored event, side-by-side racing, Guy Wood and Bulldozer proved that their earlier wins were no fluke. Bulldozer dominated.
Once again the FMX riders also put on a great show, and Diamond Dan Carter piloting his incredible jet quad, "Psycho", totally brought down the house.
We've got one more show, and I can't wait, check back tomorrow for more.

Sunday
What else can I say, I've run out of words, this has been an incredible weekend! However, the only truly unfortunate incident we had took place today, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy, Guy Wood that is. When he tried to fire Bulldozer for the Wheelie contest something didn't sound quit right, but the Big Bull fired and hauled Guy to the winners circle. It would, sadly, be his last victory of the weekend. The problem we had heard was a small chunk of the magneto gear breaking. By the end of the run it had forced itself into the cam gearing and caused a major repair situation. Guy Wood and Bulldozer were out for the rest of the show. We missed "The 'Dozer" the rest of the day, but the other four trucks stepped up to the line and gave us a great show anyway.
The most improved driver award has to go to Denver Echternkamp in Thunderstruck. Denver has been a Monster Truck pilot for almost four years, but Wichita was his very first Thunder Nationals. As you have perhaps already seen in the Friday night recap, Denver put Thunderstruck on its head in the Donut Competition. Tonight, however, Denver Echternkamp drove Thunderstruck to the Monster Truck Freestyle win. and in round one of side-by-side Racing he took the win over Mike Nitzke and Rambo. This led to a rather interesting final, as Denver's boss and truck owner Terry Woodcock defeated Bruce Haney in Bad news to also proceed to the final. Boss versus employee, mentor versus student, this was going to be fun. I interviewed both of them, and Denver was feeling pretty bold, but Terry just said "I've taught him all he knows, but I haven't taught him all I Know". Those words proved true, as Terry Woodcock and Cyclpops won the side-by-side racing.
Mike Nitzke and Rambo won the donut contest for the third day in a row, and once again the Freestyle Motocross riders were a super hit with the crowd. The FMX competitors included Scott Murray out of Perronville, Michigan, Johnny Jones for Clinton, Oklahoma and Ben Sauber and Steve Wagner From Kansas City, Missouri. Steve Wagner made a clean sweep of the weekend with victories at all three shows.
My final word on the weekend if you ever have a chance to catch Diamond Dan Carter and his jet quad 'Psycho"!!
