Saturday: January 8th, 2005 - Atlanta Georgia Dome

Allen Pezo took advantage of opportunities and drove the Predator to the racing win, the Tom Meents (with lots of help from his crew and other teams) repaired a broken left front wheel on Maximum Destruction just in time to make it out for freestyle, winning the competition with one of his best performances ever in front of a sold out crowd in Atlanta’s Georgia Dome.

Dennis Anderson in Grave Digger set the fastest qualifying time and rolled into the semi finals, where he crossed the finish line in front of Predator, only to lose the race due to a five second penalty that was imposed on the Digger for knocking over a turning pole. Predator, who had made it into the semifinal round as the fast loser, took advantage of the reprieve by winning the finals, topping Chad Fortune in the brand new Superman truck.

Fortune was especially impressive in Superman’s maiden monster jam voyage, recording racing wins over the new Escalade, Predator, and Devastator to earn a berth in the finale the first time out. He was unable to duplicate his second round win over Predator when the pair raced for the event win with Pezo recording one of the biggest racing wins of his lengthy career.

In freestyle Dan Evans set the early pace with a 25 (out of a possible 30 from the judges score) with an exciting run that was highlighted by a length of the floor, tailgate dragging wheelie. Evans stayed in the hot seat as the leader for most of the event until Madusa put a 26 point score on the board, taking the lead with just Grave Digger and Maximum Destruction left to compete. Digger had a wild run that ended when Anderson flipped the panel with time left on the clock and scored a 25. Then Meents brought out Maximum Destruction for a huge air performance that saw him break the left front wheel back off the truck, continue to run on three wheels, and ended when he broke the front right wheel off of the truck as well. Meents score of 27 was enough for the victory.

Rory Campbell drove On the Edge to victory over Jeff Dedick and General Lee in the Pro Stadium Truck racing finals.
