Weekend Race Recap

RACING WINNER: BOUNTY HUNTER
FREESTYLE WINNER: GRAVE DIGGER

Jimmy Creten drove Bounty Hunter through a Monster Jam “Murder’s Row”, beating Blue Thunder, Scarlet Bandit, Maximum Destruction, and Grave Digger in route to the racing event victory, and Dennis Anderson amazed a sold out capacity crowd with a phenomenal run to win freestyle Saturday night at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.

With the dirt surface expanded an extra 40 feet on one of the sport’s largest floors the racing on a Chicago style oval proved to be the fastest ever in the storied Monster Jam history inside of the Jones Dome.
It was Tom Meents in Maximum Destruction who earned the number one racing seed by turning in the fastest qualifying time and easily won his first two races to set-up a semifinal showdown with Creten. At the halfway point of the even run Max-D lost power and Bounty Hunter rolled to the win and a berth in the Championship race, where Anderson waited in Grave Digger. In the finale the big Ford Expedition was again up to the challenge and Creten had another victory in a venue that has seen Bounty Hunter record lots of success over the years.

On to freestyle where Bobby Parr came out first in Team Suzuki and set the bar high, with a solid :90 second regulation run followed by a pair of outstanding :30 second bonus periods to take a lead he would hold until Anderson brought Grave Digger out second to last in the draw. Anderson was on fire from the start with a wild air that included massive air over the Vegas style bus stacks on the course, and Dennis kept Grave Digger performing at that ragged edge level through the two bonus periods as well to blast into the lead. Blue Thunder, after Tony Farrell rolled his big Ford in racing severely damaging several suspension parts, was fixed just in time to follow Grave Digger onto the floor and Farrell too had a crowd pleasing run, but it ended when he flipped Blue Thunder again with time left on the clock. Meents had room to work to try and take the win with a big performance, but his huge leaps over the double bus stack broke off a wheel just :40 seconds into the run.
Meents kept on going on three wheels but flipped the truck with time left on the clock. As it turned out Anderson had the best regulation score (23) plus the best point totals for both bonus periods (4 and 3) to record the comfortable win against an all-star line up in the Gateway City.
