Friday 8:00PM

The monsters of the USHRA returned to the Civic Center in Mobile Alabama Friday night for the annual Monster Jam sponsored by Subway and Presented by the Southern Ford Dealers. The night featured Lawn Mower Racing, Freestyle Motorcross and Monster Jam favorites T-Maxx, Gunslinger, Destroyer, Reptoid and World Racing Champion Grave Digger.

Lawn mower racing is new to parts of the country but in the Mobile area it has been a growing sport for several years. Several drivers from the area are nationally ranked. Friday night fans were treated to some great competition.

Freestyle Motocross riders Ray Bennett, Jason Bidersiki and Clint Esposito gave the fans high flying sick air action with cans, seat-grabs, cliff hangers and more.

Monsters were featured in several competitions including a wheelie contest, racing, donut contest and freestyle competition.

Results are as follows:

Truck Donut Wheelie Freestyle

T-Maxx 29 22 26

Destroyer 18 26 25

Reptoid 19 20 20

Gunslinger 26 22 18

Grave Digger 30 29 30

It was a clean sweep for Randy Brown and the Grave Digger 19 team. “The truck was running great tonight and since these boys turned up the heat we had to step it up a notch”, said Brown. “Tomorrow night I know they will be looking to catch and pass me up”.

Racing Results:

Round One

Grave Digger with a bye run

Reptoid beat Gunslinger

Destroyer defeated T-Maxx

Semi-finals:

Grave Digger over round one fast loser Gunslinger

Destroyer defeated Reptoid

Race Final:

Grave Digger beat Destroyer

Brake problems caused some problems for Dan Evans and the Destroyer team but quick work but the crew kept the big Michigan truck in the game. The night ended with the drivers signing autographs for the fans.

Lawn mower races were won by Lee Franklin of Wilmer Alabama . Lee is a member of the Dixie Outlaws Lawn Mower Racing Association and proudly races the #3.

SATURDAY

The second and final night of Monster Jam brought out a near sell out crowd as fans flocked to see the bad boys of racing go at it side by side.

Fresh off his win from Friday’s Jam Randy Brown and Grave Digger was the target for all the others.

Dan Evans’ Destroyer looked very strong in the wheelie competition opening the event. He tied with Grave Digger losing in the cheer-off but came back even stronger to win racing. Other big news included T-Maxx, who tied with Grave Digger in the donut contest. Again the crowd gave the win to Digger but Alex Blackwell did an awesome job driving for Team T-MAXX. Gunslinger, and Reptoid rounded out the field of trucks. The event began early with a Southern Ford Dealers Party in the Pits followed by the action of Wheelie, Donut and Freestyle Competition as well as racing. While Grave Digger did win three of the four monster truck events it was not an easy task.

Results went this way:

Truck Wheelie Donut Freestyle

T-Maxx 19 30 18

Gunslinger 11 24 20

Reptoid 13 17 16

Destroyer 26 5 (brakes) 15 brake problems again

Grave Digger 26* 30* 29*

Racing again held some surprises for even the most seasoned fans. Results for racing went as follows:

Round One :

Grave Digger bye run

Destroyer over Reptoid

T-Maxx defeated Gunslinger

Semi-Final

Grave Digger over fast loser Gunslinger

Destroyer over T-Maxx

Race Final:

Destroyer over Grave Digger

Freestyle Motocross was again a crowd pleaser with sick tricks performed by the high flying superstars. Clint Esposito was declared the winner with his lazy boy and cliff hanger bring the fans to their feet.

Fans also were treated to lawn mower racing. The power limit on these stock lawn mower frames is 20hp. There is no weight limit or other restrictions except for NO aftermarket suspension. Drivers must use speed and body weight to get around the track and thru the turns. Winner for the nights main event was John Rollins.
