Weekend Race Recap

Friday 7:30:

Monster Jam fans were welcomed by Foothills Motorsports, Wendy's, Advance Auto Parts and Ford Trucks to the Bi-Lo center for another exciting year of Monster Jam. We started off the night with the Wendy's Wheelie competition and all six trucks were fighting for the first win. After Shock started us out and took the early lead by setting the bar high with a score of 24. Mopar Magic followed with a high sky wheelie and the lead with a 25. Bad News was next and fell short with a 16 as Stone Crusher powered his truck to the lead with a 27. Captain's Curse went even higher and scored a 28 but Grave Digger wowed the judges with a huge leap through the air for the win with a score of 29.

Racing was next and every race was a close one. In round one Mopar Magic took out his teammate Stone Crusher, Digger won a close race against Bad News and After Shock took out Captains Curse in his race. In the Semi finals Stone Crusher came in as the fast looser and took out Aftershock in what seemed to be the closest race of the night and Grave Digger was faster of the line than Mopar Magic as he advanced to the finals. In the finals Grave Digger had the crowd on his side and took the win for his second of the night as the fan went wild.

Freestyle was last and each truck scored high with all kinds of action through out the event. After Shock scored first with a 23 and Mopar Magic followed with a solid 22. Bad News was next and Bruce Haney stepped it up and took the lead with a fast cyclon doughnut scoring a 24. Not to be undone Stone Crusher was not going to be undone and was the first to take on the freestyle motorcross hill with some huge air and the lead with a 29. This left only one point to win with two trucks to go. Captain's Curse followed the same high flying action and tied Stone Crusher with a 29. Grave Digger was last and when the dust settled the Black and Green Wrecking machine took the first perfect score of the night and his third win. We will see tomorrow if Digger can keep the streak alive and Double Down again.

Saturday 2:00:

Monster Jam fans were treated with an early pit party before the start of the afternoon show as over three thousand fans were on hand to get autographs. When the Built Ford tough partyended the action started with the wheelie contest. After shock again set the bar high with a score of 16 as it was harder for the trucks to pull off a high wheelie with the cars crushed down from the night before. Bad news was next and fell short with a score of 13 until Mopar Magic took the lead with a 20. Stone Crusher was a crowd favorite and Steve Sims wheeled his way to a victory with a 24. Grave Digger was second with a 23 and Captain's Curse rounded out the field with an 18.

Rracing was awesome and again there was some close racing. Grave Digger was the one to beat and it was tough as he made it to the finals with wins over After shock in round one and fast looser mopar magic in the semi finals. Captain's Curse was also on his game and he made it to the finals with wins over Mopar Magic and Stone crusher. In the finals it was teammate vs. teammate and one driver would go home with braggin rights. When the green flag dropped Digger again was faster off the line and took yet another win for the Black and Green Wrecking machine. Also in round one Stone Crusher beat Bad News in a very close race to advance to the semi finals.

Freestyle was awesome as each monster truck took advantage of the solid Carolina dirt and powered some great freestyle scores. Aftershock took the early lead away from Bad news and Mopar with a score of 22 which i thought would be tough as each of the trucks scored 21. It didn't take long after that as Stone Crusher was looking for his second win of the day and sailed his truck into the lead with a 26. Captain's Curse was next and fell one short with a 25 leaving only Grave Digger to go. Digger done everything he could on the floor with doughnuts and huge air off the freestyle hill to tie Stone Crusher with a 26. The crowd was going wild as they waited for the tie breaker score from the USHRA HEAD judge who scored Crusher an 8 and Digger a 9 for the overall victorie. I know each and every fan didn't want to leave and even screamed for more when it was all over as they headed to the concorse for autographs with another Monster Jam in the books here at Greenville.

Saturday 7:30:

A nearly sold out crowd of more than 8,000 screaming fans packed the Bi-Lo center for what was the most action packed Monster Jam I have seen here in the last 5 years. The awesome fans were treated to some of the biggest upsets, some of the sickest freestyle motorcross and stunt man Steve Diveno freefall from the roof as he was on fire.

The night started off with the wheelie contest and fresh cars were brought in for the night. Mopar Magic won the competition with a score of 28 which was a tie with Digger but the extra judge scored him 2 points higher for the win. Grave Digger was second and Captain's Curse was third with a 25. Stone Crusher took a 24 which was weak considering that he also put his truck on the tailgate just like Mopar. After shock scored a 22 and Bad News rounded out the field with an 18.

Race was next and another upset was in the making. in round one Bad News got his first race win of the weekend by defeating After Shock. Grave Digger also advanced by beating Captains curse who protested the call after the show was over and Stone crusher also advanced by taking out Mopar Magic. In the Semi finals Bad News was on top of his game by beating off the line and across the finish againts fast looser Mopar Magic. Stone Crusher also had an upset as he took out grave Digger in a very close race. In the finals Bad News was victorious giving Bruce Haney his first racing win of the year over Stone Crusher and an awesome field of monster trucks.

Freestyle was last and by now the fans were ready for more as Aftershock started us out with a solid score of 22. That didn't last long as Mopsr Magic showed his stuff and cleared the giant freestyle motorcross hill with the fans on there feet for the lead with a 23. Bad news was next and Haney could only muster up a 20 but was still on cloud nine with the racing win. Stone Crusher again came close to winning the freestyle competition as he scored a 22. Captains Curse was next and still upset over the raceing call in round one of racing took it out on the track and his truck and again showed why this truck is your world champion. Blackweel took the lead and the win with a perfect score of thirty leaving digger with out a win for the night. Now don't worry Digger in fashion showed the monster jam fans a wild run as he rolled the truck right at the 60 second mark for second place as the crowd cheered for more. In the final interview Rod Schmidt praised Blackwell for his win and they both ran up into the crowd to say good buy till next year. What a night for MONSTER JAM!
