Weekend Race Recap

Friday

Wheelie Comp

Backdraft was first out. He was up against some tough judges as they scored him at a 13. Brutus was hot on his first hit but lacked on his second which put him in the lead with a 16. Predator may have had some traction trouble not getting the lift on his hits ending up with a 9. Prowler set a new lead when he came out with a combo of nice wheelies putting him in first for the time being. No love for the home town girl, Dawn Creten in Scarlet Bandit who came out and scored a 15 but was not enough to secure a lead. Maximum Destruction driven by Chuck Werner (Tom was in a car accident and unable to make it here. Word is all is ok just some bruising). Chuck drove it like Tom told him to, wide open! He pulled out the lead with a 19. At that point there were two trucks left. Avenger was on his game putting two solid hits pulling into the lead with the first 20 of the night a 22. There was one truck left: Eradicator. He blasted the first one and his truck cleared the cars in an almost 90 degree angle to the show floor. Scores came down and he would be crowned the champ a 25. Judges good call.

Backdraft was out in a 60 second run with a course that was a tough one to navigate. The moisture in the dirt caused some of the trucks to not get the traction they would need to clear some of the obstacles. Backdraft got the ball rolling with an 11. Prowler bettered that with a 13 using just about everything out there. The van stack was a popular obstacle allowing the Monster Jam trucks to get some big air and impress the Kansas City crowd. Brutus came out like a mad dog but his run was cut short when the right rear wheel came off after a long jump off the van stack, I told you the van stack was popular. He didn't use his entire run but still scored an 11. Eradicator next up with a lot of time on the clock seemed to be on pace for a new lead but he lost some momentum. His score a 15. Predator driven by Dale Mitchell nipped on the heels of Eradicator and surpassed him with a 17. Scarlet Bandit was the first to step up and hit the Freestyle Motocross landing ramp in the opposite direction. That was all the crowd and the judges needed to see to give a new leader a 27. Avenger was on the gas from the green light and hit the FMX ramp two times but his flow was off when he overshot a turn and was off the track and had to put it in reverse to get adjusted. It would be close but Scarlet Bandit stood on top. Avenger a 26. Last up was a man with a lot of pressure on his shoulders, Chuck Werner. He came out like the truck had a mind of its own hitting crunch cars getting the big air everyone expects out of Max D and was only able to get a 23. Looks like the ladies rule the Sprint Center tonight. Till tomorrow!

Wheelie

Backdraft has an important role in the wheelie contest as he sets the bar of how hard the other drivers are going to have to go. He set that bar at a 14. Up next was Prowler with a solid 16. Brutus, who we saw lose a wheel last night, came out big trying to redeem himself to his fans by a big showing today, he did that with a 19. Predator hit the course and I thought it was going to be a leading run but after a weak hit he was set to land a 14. Not enough. Now we are up to Jim Koehler. Avenger what were you thinking. He came out on the first hit and stood it straight up - maybe even beyond straight up. He took a weird bounce and a second later he was upside down laying the truck on its side. Track crew was on top of the situation, got Jim out, and the crowd went nuts! He scored a 16 and that was with only one hit! Scarlet Bandit - oh the fans she had here today. Coming out she was on the pace two solid wheelies and the score would come down a 16. Eradicator, last night’s winner, was set up on the first, came in and did a great job on the first hit. He was set up for the second and needed the crowd behind him. He stopped, revved it up and then blew out his motor. He was back in the pits working on it but, as we found out, he would not be back today. Chuck Werner stepped up to fill the shoe of being in one of the most recognized trucks in the world - Max D. He slammed the first hit sending the truck into a monster wheelie, second hit same thing. Score a 25! He would be our winner.

Freestyle

Backdraft was out and really used the course to fit his style. Setting up with smaller hits and worked it into the big stuff at the end. Score came down a 14.  Prowler coming off the big racing win was up next. He was able to better Backdrafts run by a posting a 16. Brutus was all about making up for lost time last night. He hit van stacks, he hit the FMX lander, he was all over it and scored a 22. New leader. Predator blew it out in the afternoon show - he was all about the huge air in this run. He would take it over with a 23. Scarlet Bandit had the fans the big tricks and even a launch off the FMX lander. She was scored at a 25. She had a chance at another win.  Two trucks left. Avenger, who had already landed on the lid tonight in the wheelies contest, would not be disappointing anyone today. After the run was almost over, he came off the van stack and tried to get one more trick with a doughnut. It stuck a little too much, putting Avenger on the roof upside down one more time. That would score Jim a 27. One driver left - Max D - boy can he drive. Chuck had the big air but after following the second roll over from Avenger it would be tough. Max D landed a 23 not enough to knock off Avenger.

Congrats Jim a great win.

Coming out of the gates it is a nerve racking position, Backdraft handled the pressure well tonight. He set the bar at a 17. Prowler seemed a little lost in his run and the judges took notice landing him a 16. Brutus seemed to come alive this weekend on the tighter course in freestyle. He was able to post a 21 putting him in the lead for the time being. Predator pulled a doughnut, a few big hits and settled the truck down when the score cards were raised a 23. Scarlet Bandit had the confidence of the fans behind her and with a freestyle win on Friday she was set to do well tonight. She loved the FMX landing ramp - a few big hits off of that and scores came down a 25. Maximum Destruction driven by Chuck Werner is loved by Kansas City. He gave them what they came to see: BIG AIR. He was on the throttle and hit it all. When it was all said and done he would pull into the lead at 27. Last truck out, Avenger, brought the house down tonight finding lines no one had used, sort of banking off the FMX ramp and using it every other way possible. The clock was almost out when he started in on the doughnut. The tires gripped putting it up on two wheels and the he stomped on it spinning Avenger around and stopping only when it was on its roof. Three roll overs in all for Jim Koehler. Crazy Koehler.
