Weekend Race Recap

Friday Night:

Monster Jam blasted into the New England area tonight for an Awesome Event!  Eight of the best trucks in the country were in town this weekend.  Three different events for the Monsters Tonight.

The first event was the Monster Jam Wheelie Competition.  One truck at a time and try to do the best sky wheelie you can.  The scores were fairly low but were consistent.  The got higher and higher as each truck went.  Then the sixth truck, El Toro Loco, would do something I have never seen before.  Paul Cohen would stand the truck on its tailgate and the truck would stay like that for a few minutes.  The track crew would have to come out of the pits and give the truck a little push to get it down.  The judges gave Cohen a 28 and that would be good enough for the win.

The next event would be Monster Jam Racing.  The drivers drew for their starting position before the event.  Round One:  Suzuki defeated Thrasher, Grave Digger defeated Pouncer, El Toro Loco defeated Destroyer, and Turtle defeated Predator.  Semi-Finals:  Grave Digger defeated Suzuki and El Toro Loco defeated Turtle.  The finals would be decided by a photo finish.  The judges decided that Grave Digger would get the nose of the truck across the line first.  Grave Digger would be the race winner.

The final event of the night would be the crowd favorite, Monster Jam Freestyle.  The track crew brought out a van stack and would knock the dirt out from in front of the crush cars to make for some huge air.  60 seconds of anything goes.  Once again the judge’s scores' were very low, but very consistent.  Predator, driven by Allan Pezo would catch the biggest air when he launched the truck off of the FMX landing ramp.  Predator would take the lead with a 22.  The last truck, Pablo Huffaker would launch Grave Digger off of the FMX ramp right off the bat and kept the wheels going until the very end.  Grave Digger would tear the place apart tonight and score a 24.  Grave Digger would take the win in Freestyle.

Saturday Afternoon:

The afternoon started off with a packed out Built Ford Tough Party in the Pits and that got the crowd going and ready for Monster Jam.  Eight Awesome Trucks were in town for an exciting afternoon of carnage.

Up first was Monster Jam Wheelie Competition.  Who was going to top last nights tailgate standing wheelie by El Toro Loco?  The trucks came out one at a time for one hit on the cars in the reverse direction of the racing lanes.  The trucks all did very well but the judges gave the highest score and the win to Paul Cohen in El Toro Loco.

Then came Monster Jam Racing.  With eight terrific trucks the racing was very close in all of the rounds.  Round One:  Destroyer defeated Turtle, Grave Digger defeated Team Suzuki, Predator defeated Pouncer, and El Toro Loco defeated Thrasher.  Semi-Finals:  Grave Digger defeated "Airman" Dan Evans in Destroyer and Predator  defeated El Toro Loco.  The racing final would again have to go to a photo finish.  The crowd and judges watched very closely and the winner would be Grave Digger.

The final event of the afternoon would be the UTI Freestyle Competition.  Sixty seconds to do whatever you want on the floor of the DCU Center.  The track crew also set up a huge van stack and put another car on top of the racing lanes.  The scores started out kind of low for a Monster Jam but jumped up high on the forth truck.  Destroyer took the lead and looked like the win but then came El Toro Loco.  Cohen was now the new leader until the last truck came out.  Pablo Huffaker behind the wheel of Grave Digger would hit everything in sight and do the best donuts of the weekend so far.  Grave Digger would take the win with a score of 25.

Saturday Night:

Another packed house tonight in the DCU Center got to see a Fantastic Monster Jam.  The crowd was ready to rock from the get go.  Eight of the best trucks were in town.  Three different events and three different winners tonight.

Up first was the Monster Jam Wheelie Competition.  One truck at a time and each truck would try to stand their truck on their tailgate.  The truck with the highest score would be the winner.  The scores were relatively low but very fair.  The high score would be a 26.  The winner would make it three for three this weekend.  Paul Cohen in El Toro Loco would be the winner.

The second event would be Monster Jam Racing.  The racing was Awesome tonight.  Round One:  Destroyer defeated Grave Digger, Pouncer defeated Thrasher, Team Suzuki defeated Predator, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle defeated El Toro Loco.  Semi-Finals:  Destroyer defeated Pouncer and Team Suzuki defeated Turtle.  A new pair in the Finals this weekend.  Dan Evans in Destroyer against Lee O'Donnell in Team Suzuki.  The trucks were in a dead heat as they completed the first lap and remained close until they crossed the Ford Finish Line.  Destroyer would take the win by about 6 feet.

The final event of the night would be Monster Jam Freestyle.  Sixty seconds, anything goes in the freestyle tonight.  The track crew brought out a van stack and also built up the racing lanes for bigger air.  The scores went up with each truck tonight.  Pouncer 15, Thrasher 16, Team Suzuki and Destroyer 17,  Predator 19, Turtle 20, and El Toro Loco 21.  The judges were doing a great job.  The final truck of the night would be Pablo Huffaker in Grave Digger.  Huffaker would take over the floor.  Grave Digger would catch the highest air, longest donuts, and jump the furthest in his freestyle run.  The judges gave Grave Digger a 25 and the win.

 Sunday Afternoon:

Another sell out crowd was in the house today for Monster Jam.  Three different events again this afternoon for eight of the best Monster Jam trucks in the World.

The first event of the day would be Monster Jam Wheelie Competition.  El Toro Loco has won the competition in the three previous shows.  Could Paul Cohen make it four in a row and a clean sweep?  The judges were looking for a straight up and down wheel stand.  Team Suzuki took the lead early with a score of 19.  That score would hold up until the last truck.  Pablo Huffaker in Grave Digger would romp on the gas pedal and launch his truck way up in the air.  The judges gave Grave Digger a score of 20 and the win by one point.

Up next would be Monster Jam Racing.  The brackets were set by the drivers drawing chips in the pit area before the show.  The races were really close once again today.  In the finals we had two veteran drivers.  Dan Evans in Destroyer and Pablo Huffaker in Grave Digger.  Digger got the whole shot and wouldn't look back.  Grave Digger took the win by a narrow margin.

The final event of the weekend would be the UTI Freestyle Competition.  One truck at a time for sixty seconds anything goes Freestyle.  The scores were really close today.  The drivers and crews would have one week to fix whatever gets broken.  The drivers drove really hard and the freestyle was Awesome!  The crowd would go crazy for Paul Cohen in El Toro Loco.  Cohen hit every obstacle on the floor and hit them in every direction.  Cohen would win over the judges as well as the crowd.  The judges gave El Toro Loco a 22.  That score would be enough for the win.  El Toro Loco would be the Winner.
