Weekend Race Recap
Roses for Grave Digger in Oregon
The USHRA slammed into the Douglas County fairgrounds this weekend with 3 fantastic shows and the Oregon fans were thrilled to max to say the least. In the Monster truck Wheelie contests, it was Gravedigger who set the pace. Pablo Huffaker slammed the competition with fantastic runs. Roger Stidell in Captain USA gave Gravedigger everything he could handle but came up short all three nights.
In Monster Jam racing Gravedigger won all three events, but the surprise here was Rick Swanson in Obsession. Rick was consistent all three nights as was Roger Stidell in Captain USA. Stidell came from the fast loser slot on Saturday afternoon to make it to the final round to race Digger. Gravedigger won by the slightest of margins.
In Street Warriors, it was a family affair with Gary and son Brent Woodruff smacking the field , winning by more the 1.5 seconds in almost every round. There were a few rollovers but no one was hurt in the roll over’s. The course was much longer and much more aggressive than the normal Street Warrior track. Gary Woodruff Won on Saturday afternoon and Saturday nights, while son Brent won on Friday night.
Quad Wars filled the event card pitting Team California against Team Oregon. Team California was using questionable riding tactics against Oregon all through out the weekends racing. Then came the final, each team had won an overall, so the Saturday night showdown was the big one and it was all Team Oregon. Every time the California team tried to make a pass, the Oregon riders flat shut them down. The crowd went crazy.
Monster Jam Freestyle was what you expect from a talented field like we had in Oregon. Gravedigger won 2 of the 3 shows and Arron Basl one the afternoon event. Pablo did things with his Gravedigger truck that solidified the fact that he is one of the premier drivers in the sport. He launched the truck where you would think it couldn’t happen. He hit every thing possible and then some. TMNT also had some fantastic runs, proving that Arron Basl was and is a good fit in the unique TMNT truck. Captain USA was no slouch either, as he pounded his ride until he destroyed a transfer case.
Overall results for the three shows were:
Freestyle: Captain USA, Racing : Grave Digger, Street Warriors: Gary Woodruff ,Quad Wars; Team California. (Friday)
Freestyle: TMNT, Racing: Grave Digger, Street Warriors: Brent Woodruff, Quad Wars: Team Oregon (Saturday Afternoon)
Freestyle: Grave Digger, Racing: grave Digger, Street Warriors: Gary Woodruff, Quad Wars Team Oregon
Wheelie Contest: Grave Digger all three shows,
All in all it was a great weekend of Monster Jam Racing, thank you to Advance Auto parts and Ford trucks for presenting a great weekend.
