Weekend Race Recap

 FRIDAY, MAY 02,2008
By. Fernando Rubio and Walter Hernandez/ Event Announcers

For the very first time ever......Monster Jam in  Costa Rica!  Our international tour has started this time in the first latin american country, in San Jose, Costa Rica.
It has been really amazing to us that we have so many thousands of fans in Costa Rica, and as proof of that, it is the 4 shows that have sold out at the Saprissa Stadium.

We started our night of competition with Monster Jam Wheelie having as a winner Blue Thunder  with driver Lee O'Donnel, whom by the way, has driven this truck for just the third time, and he has been already a winner tonight. With the highest score of 17 pts followed closely by Candice Jolly on Monster Mutt Dalmation.

Monster Jam Racing is anxiously awaited by the Costa Ricans, many of whom already have their favorites for tonights competition. Batman and Superman made it to the finals, having as winner Batman, who  had a difficult time beating Chad Fortune on Superman. The roaring Costa Rican crowd just went nuts when they saw the whole firing display of Batman, while Superman's body was just coming off due to the speed and high jumps over the dirt hills.

Monster Jam free style started with some bad news, when Batman's John Seasock announce that he wouln't be able to compete in free style due to a broken bearing on one of the monster's axle. The MonsterJam freestyle was awsome. People in Costa just would not believe all the tricks that the monsters did in order to gain the sympathy of the judges. After a tough competition we came to have a tie between Captain's Curse and Grave Digger. The judges actually had a rough time scoring such awsome perfomances from all the monsters. The tie between these two had to be broken by the audience by applause, and our winner was Grave Digger. Chad Tingler at the winners stage said that he forgets about everything, and just focuses on  how to please his fans.

We look forward to see many more Ticos at the Saprissa Stadium with two shows and lots of great competition. We'll keep you posted from San Jose, Costa Rica!!!!

Once again, the Ricardo Sapprisa Stadium in San Jose, Costa Rica rumbled with the exciting roaring of the more of 13,000 Costa Ricans for the first Saturday show. Previous to the Banco Nacional Pepsi Monster Jam, we had our Pit Party with more de 5 thousand ticos who came to meet the drivers, took pictures and got their autographs.

Actually, it has been far more than what we anticipated as a fan base in Costa Rica.  Everyone attending had a great time greeting the monster jam pilots, and taking home great souveniers.

We started our afternoon of competition with Monster Jam Racing qualifying. Followed by first round, semi-finals and the Monster Jam Racing. Under a very rainny afternoon all the track dirt became very muddy, and the drivers had a very tough time going against the mud and going off the ramps, in which cases it cost them some precious qualifying seconds. For Semi´s we had: Grave Digger vs Monster Mutt Dalmatian. Escalade vs Blue Thunder.

Monster Jam finals were between Grave Digger and Escalade. Winner of racing¨:  Grave Digger.

The wet and muddy conditions of the track couldn´t be more challenging for the monsters. They knew it was hard but fun nevertheless.  The highest scores were: Superman 21, Batman 22, Captain´s Curse 25, Grave Digger 26, and the winner of Monster Jam Free Style, El Toro Loco with 27 points. Lupe Sosa was deeply moved with the Costa Rican support and reaction to his victory.

We have one more night of competition in Costa Rica, and we´ll sure keep you  posted with all the resuls and the recap of one more night of Banco Naconal Pepsi Monster Jam!!!!

The second show of a rainny saturday in San Jose, Costa Rica has been wonderful. The heavy afternoon rain has borught us a very muddy track that made the competitions very difficult, all the drivers have agreed to that. But in spite of the difficult conditions, the drivers made the best effort to give their best perfomances to the Costa Rican fans. For Alex Blackwell, it was the very first victory in Costa Rica in Monster Jam Wheelie. Followed by Monster Jam Racing with Grave Digger- Chad Tingler- who got his second victory in racing being in Costa Rica. The audience was set for more Monster Jam action, as they awaited for Monster Jam Free Style. It was a great competitions, especally with the conditions given on the track. Highest scores were for Blue Thunder 22, Grave Digger 19, and for the winner, El Toro Loco- Lupe Sosa- with 25 points. People were very enthusiastic with Lupe, and especially being the first Latino in Monster Jam, and first time in Costa Rica.

It has been our last day in San Jose, Costa Rica. It has been the last day of competition, and fortunately without rain. We had a perfect track for competition, and all the drivers agreed to it, and promised to give all to the ticos.  During interviews in  the pit party, all drivers said, that since it was the last day, they had to go beyond everyone´s expectations, and so they did.

A roaring crowd welcomed to Monster Jam  trucks, and competition started. Monster Jam Wheelie had fantastic wheelies. We had very high scores. Highest scores : Blue  Thunder 23, Batman 20, Toro Loco 20, Dalmatian 22.We had a tie between Dalmatian and Blue Thunder that the audience had to break, giving the win to Dalmatian. Candice Jolly celebrated with the audience, and dedicated the win to todas las Mujeres!!( to all the women).

Monster Jam Racing.  A great afternoon. The roaring engines started to run for qualifying. First round. Toro Loco vs Batman. Monster Mutt vs Grave Digger. Superman vs Batman. Escalade vs Captain´s Curse.

Semi-Finals.

Toro Loco vs Grave Digger. Superman vs Capt´s Curse.

Finals

Grave Digger vs Capt Curse...... Winner Grave Digger!

Monster Jam Free Style.. Ticos were waiting for the promises of MJ drivers to come true. They said they were going to tear the trucks apart, and so did they. It was one of the most fantastic free styles that I have ever seen. Blue Thunder rolled over his truck, and also El Toro Loco. Capt´s Curse almost rolled over after jumping the crashed cars obstacles on a dirt ramp! Escalade removed the driving wheel while spinning a donut. And of course we had very high scores, but only one winner. Capt´s Curse with 26 points. Alex Blackwell really went hard on the track with donuts,  super high jumps, crashing cars, and took advantage of every second of the 90 given for free style.

Alex thanked the audience and also the other drivers for whom his has great respect. Congrats Capt´s Curse!

It has been a great experience being here in Costa Rica. Thank you so much amigos Ticos!!!
