Weekend Race Recap
Saturday Afternoon
Clear skies and vibrant mountain air welcomed Monster Jam brought to you by Advance Auto Parts to the Bear Ridge Speedway.. As the Monster Trucks fired up for introductions, the sweet song of their engines reverberated through the hills. By the echoes, you could tell that there was good air up here that would turn into good horsepower and torque and an awesome Monster Jam.
The crowd was ready to see some action from the trucks and the Monster Jam Wheelie competition was the appetizer that they longed to see come to the table. Dominator shot out of the pits first and hit the cars for an impressive 17. El Toro Loco was fired up and wowed the crowd with a 20. Backdraft crawled to the line and hit it for a 20 to tie El Toro Loco. Eradicator decided to take a much longer approach to the cars which worked to his benefit as he skied up for a 25 breaking the tie! With only one truck left in the pits, the mark was set high. Grave Digger would have to beat a remarkable 25 to take the win. He took an even longer approach to the cars and rolled up slowly before pouring it on. He rose up slightly with a respectable wheelie that only earned him a 18. Eradicator takes the win in the first competition of the night.
Brackets for Monster Jam racing were determined by a blind draw before the show and we brought the drivers out in the Blue Thunder Built Ford Tough Dually. Grave Digger was confident about the bye run while Eradicator was sure of himself and his experience. Grave Digger's bye run was super fast and Dominator and Eradicator were up next. Eradicator's experience paid off as he moved on to the semifinals. The last pair of the first round paired El Toro Loco and Backdraft. The two young bucks were neck and neck to the finish line with El Toro Loco taking the win. Don't count out Backdraft yet, as he would come back as the fast loser against Grave Digger. This round would be determined by a hole shot win, with Grave Digger moving on to the finals. The last match of the semifinals paired the El Toro Loco against Eradicator. With his eye on the prize, Eradicator launched from the line and easily took the win. This lead to an awesome final with Grave Digger facing the winner of the first event of the night, Eradicator. Grave Digger was just too fast off the lights and left Eradicator in the dust. The crowd went crazy and Grave Digger took the Monster Jam racing win!
Everyone was pumped for Monster Jam Freestyle! Dominator didn't waste any time as he attacked the course. The highlight of his run was some huge air over crush cars that had been doubled up. He continued after the air with quick turns and a cool wheelie. He earned a 20 right off the bat to set the bar high. Backdraft set out on the course with speed and a couple of wheelies for a score of 19. Eradicator decided to spruce things up and coupled his big air with some crazy donuts. The flags were waving and the crowd was pleased as the scores rose from the crowd for a 25. El Toro Loco rammed out of the pits with quick turns and little air, but was no match for the 25 of Eradicator with his 22. Grave Digger was the only one left and it was almost a repeat of the Monster Jam Wheelie competition. Grave Digger was able to watch everyone else run before him and you could tell that he was ready to turn it on as he left the pits. He wowed the fans with amazing air and killer donuts. What an awesome run to cap off Monster Jam Freestyle, but would it be enough? The scores rose from the crowd to reveal a perfect 30! Grave Digger takes a huge win in Monster Jam Freestyle.
Saturday Night
Mid-afternoon sprinkles tried to rain on the Monster Jam brought to you by Advance Auto Parts tonight at the Bear Ridge Speedway. But as the day moved along, so did the clouds and an almost perfect night set in for the show.
The Monster Jam Wheelie competition kicked off the night with some spectacular action. Dominator started with a cool wheelie for a17. El Toro Loco got in the throttle a little late on his run for a 14. With 17 as the score to beat, Backdraft barreled to the line with authority. Taking a little bit longer approach than his predecessors, he slowly rolled to the cars and then poured it on for an impressive wheelie that the crowd loved. The judges loved it too for a 26. Taking a lesson from Backdraft, Eradicator used the same long approach. He soared through the air with the wheels just hitting the last car before he came down. The wheelie was good enough for a 29 and to take the lead. Grave Digger was next and he had just watched a tough run and had to get a perfect 30 to beat Eradicator. He lined up and tested almost where he had pitted for the wheelie competition. Creeping to the line with barely any throttle, Grave Digger turned it on just as the front tires nicked the crush cars. He sailed over the cars with a square landing and bopped the throttle one more time for an awesome slap wheelie. With all the fans on their feet, the scores went up for a perfect 30! Grave Digger takes the first competition of the night.
Monster Jam racing pairs were determined by a blind draw before the show giving Eradicator the bye run. He chose the right lane and made an adequate run to get a good feel for the track. Dominator matched up against Grave Digger with the black and green machine edging him out. El Toro Loco staged up and got ready for the last race of round one and awaited his competition. Backdraft was taking some extra time getting to the staging area and all of a sudden, he just stopped. He got out of the truck to investigate the problem and realized that he had a steering issue and with some help from the loader, headed back to the pits to see if he could get it fixed in time for Monster Jam Freestyle. That meant that El Toro Loco had the bye run and stayed in the left lane for a fast run. He came right back and faced Grave Digger in the semi finals. Grave Digger took the right lane and El Toro Loco staged up on the left. As the light turned green they were neck and neck to the finish with Grave Digger edging out the crazy bull and heading to the finals. Dominator, looking for revenge after a close first round race, came back as the fast loser to match up against Eradicator. It was clear at the finish line who won and it was Dominator by a half a truck. He had predicted earlier that he would make it to the finals tonight against Grave Digger and he make that prediction a reality. But, did he have enough to edge out Grave Digger? They staged up and the crowd was ready after and awesome wave. The lights turned and it was close over the first roll, but as they hit the cars, Grave Digger stayed low while Dominator caught some air and that made all the difference. Grave Digger edged out Dominator to take the second win of the night.
After a short break and some crazy quad wars, the Monster Trucks were cooled off and ready to let it all hang out during Monster Jam Freestyle. Dominator rocked the course first catching some cool air and attacking the fresh van stack that was placed on the course during intermission. No holding back for him as he scored a 22. El Toro Loco was on it right away as he popped a wheelie and did a quick turn for a shot at the van stack. More wheelies and quick turns followed and he ended his run with an awesome shot at the van stack. El Toro Loco moved into the lead with a 23. Backdraft was still in the pits trying to fix that steering issue he had during Monster Jam racing and was not able to get it fixed in time for freestyle. So that meant that Eradicator was up next. His run was simple as he stuck to the basics for a 21. Grave Digger was the only truck left on the track and the crowd was eager to see what the two time winner already tonight had to bring to the track. Barreling to the cars, he raced across them to make a quick turn and hit a huge wheelie. The van stack was next and big air was the result. A quick donut and then the black and green wrecking machine doubled back and hit a wheelie with the truck turning in mid air. It landed on its right two tires and everyone thought it was going to roll over. But with experience on his side, he made a great save and continued his run with air and donuts galore. The truck continued to destroy the track after the time expired and the crowd was on their feet as they awarded him a perfect 30. Grave Digger earns a clean sweep in tonight's competition.
Sunday Afternoon
Rain, Rain, Go Away, was the song that we were singing at the Bear Ridge Speedway this afternoon as we tried to get ready for the Monster Jam presented by Advance Auto Parts. It started early, around nine o'clock, and the steady rain was making a mess of the great course set up on the track. The track crew utilized the bucket on the loader to try to scrap away the water and fill in the puddles, but the consistency of the showers erased any progress that they had made. But, no matter what the conditions, the Monster Jam must go on.
The trucks came out for a quick parade lap for introductions and immediately staged up for Monster Jam Racing. Grave Digger was up first with the bye run and chose the right lane that had less standing water on the Advance Auto Parts starting line. With a quick and muddy run, he headed back to the pits to see who he would face as the fast loser. Eradicator faced Dominator in the first match up and took a holeshot win on the right lane. El Toro Loco faced Backdraft and the crazy bull took the muddy starting lane as his lane choice. It worked for him as he slung a bunch of mud right off the bat but raced his way to a win across the Ford Finish line. Dominator came back as fast loser to face Grave Digger, who staged in the right lane. Dominator didn't seem to get the traction that El Toro Loco grabbed off the line and was left in the mud as Grave Digger took the win. Eradicator lined up in what seemed to be the drier lane and El Toro Loco staged in the water for the final match up of the semi finals. It was a holeshot win for El Toro Loco. He seemed to figure out the water infested starting line to take the win. He came right back to face Grave Digger in the finals. In a close race, El Toro Loco was edged out by Grave Digger who used the drier right lane to his advantage.
With the rain still coming down, the show moved right into Monster Jam Freestyle. Dominator came out first and popped a couple of wheelies to earn a 13. El Toro Loco was next and he had kind of figured out how to work his truck on the muddy track. He too popped wheelies and made agile turns with a score of 18. Backdraft followed the lead of the guys ahead of him , but he couldn't seem to get traction very well and did a lot of sliding. His score of 15 would put him in second place so far. Eradicator kicked up a bunch of mud during his run and finished slow for a score of 12. The most impressive part of his run came after the light had turned red when he turned out an awesome donut right in front of the stands. Grave Digger bolted out next and hit the cars quick and maneuvered as if he were on an ice rink, sliding through the turns. He too earned an 18 leaving the winner up to the secret judge. Would it be El Toro Loco or Grave Digger? The word came down from the judge that it would be...GRAVE DIGGER. What a crazy competition!
