lEl Toro Loco is born of the same bad-blooded breed as Bulldozer. Lupe Soza piloted El Toro in its' first competition in Lafayette, Louisiana, during January of 2001. The bilingual (Spanish and English) driver and his brazen red bull were a sensation from the start. Before his first roll-over in May of 2001, the legion of fans started to swell in numbers.
El Toro's sophomore season brought even higher expectations for the red-hot warrior but for the young driver, ought-two was still considered a learning year. "I was still getting seat-time. I was still learning how to be a good freestyle and getting feel of the truck, " comments Soza.
In 2002, El Toro boasted a 540 cubic inch big-block engine, firing up almost 1500 horse power.
In 2002 and 2003, El Toro Loco earned enough points to qualify for a coveted position to compete in with the 16 best monsth trucks in the business in a winner-take-all comeptition in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Monster Jam World Finals.
In 2004, after qualifying for the World Finals again, Lupe Soza mentioned that only 1 point kept him from winning freestyle in 2003. Said Soza, "I will do what it takes this year to earn that extra one point."
And he did. In the 2004 Monster Jam World Finals, Lupe Soza finally achieved what everyone thought he should have received last year -- a title of Monster Jam World Finals Freestyle Winner. Although this year the World Finals ended with three Freestyle champs, it just goes to show how talented each one of these winners is and how tight the competition was. You can bet that Soza and El Toro Loco will be raring to go for the next season after ending this one on top.
