AURORA, Ill. (March 28, 2008) – Live Nation Motor Sports Inc., is announced today that Monster Jam®, the largest touring monster truck property in the world, will be featured for the second year in a row in a one-hour segment on CBS Sports Sunday, April 27 at Noon EST.
After earning a 1.1 Nielson Rating, which equals 1,100,000 households and 2,400,000 viewers, last April in the first Monster Jam broadcast on network television in nearly two decades, CBS Sports will once again showcase a one-hour package that will feature the top racing and freestyle highlights of the 2008 Monster Jam tour as well as highlights, behind-the-scenes footage and exclusive interviews from the culminating Monster Jam NGK Spark Plugs World Finals at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium.
It’s only fitting to bring Monster Jam to network television. To date, Monster Jam is on pace to set an all-time attendance record, which is expected to surpass last year’s record of 4 million fans attending 125 tour stops and 325 performances around the world. In mid-January Monster Jam shattered its all-time one-weekend attendance record, packing seven stadiums over 12 performances with 437,616 fans. The following month another Monster Jam milestone was reached as 70,611 fans packed Jacksonville Stadium, and on the same weekend at the New Orleans’ Superdome, the venue hosted its first Monster Jam since Hurricane Katrina, attracting a record 60,217 fans.
The Monster Jam World Finals is one of Las Vegas’ top yearly destination events, attracting attendees from all 50 states, eight Canadian Provinces and over 12 countries. It is one of the top 10 sponsored events per year in Las Vegas by the Las Vegas Visitors and Convention Authority providing a $15 million-plus economic impact to the city.
“We are elated to bring Monster Jam to network television for the second consecutive year,” said Charlie Mancuso, president, Live Nation Motor Sports, Inc. “While we are on the verge of another record year for Monster Jam in terms of live event attendance, television viewers, www.MonsterjamOnline.com unique users and outside corporate involvement, we want to continue to push the Monster Jam brand to higher levels, and network television reaching as many people as possible is another way we are accomplishing this.”
Monster Jam’s popularity has expanded into the gaming world with the fall release of Monster Jam the video game, produced by Activision. An instant hit, Monster Jam the video game has sold over a half-million units to date domestically. This compliments the 40-plus licensees under the Monster Jam brand.
